Regardless --- You need a good domain name. And then see if it's trademarked.

If you're shooting for the stars , you need brand protection. If this is just going to be a small town gig or small project -don't worry about brand protection at this phase. Or you can come up with a name that means absolutely nothing -like a lot of the domains out there. Build around that.

If you don't build something people need, no amount of advertising or beating the pavement will help.You'll wear yourself down and get frustrated. Keep researching what your concept is and see if anyone else is doing it.If you have a twist to what they're doing -- experiment and find out why they aren't doing it. Most of this is espionage through out the life of the business. Get good at it.

I'm not an expert -by no means-- I do a lot of reading on Techcrunch and other tech blogs. Been doing nothing but reading for 5 years now without launching a thing. Just planning things out and watching the industry and where it's going. If you're green to the industry you're like a young puppy up against a pit bull. the industry is violent. Business is a brutal chess game.-That's it. Don't get caught in check mate. You'll have to close up shop and move back home to your parents. Who wants that ( ? )

Thanks for that. I am green and I am in the same boat, been reading and learning and studying and this is the first idea that I thought I really wanted to pursue. I think that this is a service that could serve every small to medium business, large ones can replicate this themselves, or rather they have the resources to negate what I bring to the table, other than in specific use cases.

The good thing about the business is that I have seen some things done already in the same space, but with a different inflection and focus.

I really want to go for it and think it could scale. If it doesn't work at scale, it could still generate leads to get to consulting gigs and could be easily maintained locally. I think I may be rambling, but I am excited to get things going.

Oh and for the company and domain name, I got it secured, it makes sense and is totally memorable. It fits the company and could lead to great branding.

Have you reserved the .net and other extensions ?

You want to think about gobbling up everything related to that name early on or else it could haunt you in the future. Plus investors love that you take care of this early on.Shows you're bright and less risky.47

Got the twitter, a domain and some other things. Trademark wise, I have a lawyer friend who is going to help me through that. I think whether I like it or not, the thing is starting up.. I just got to continue to build the product.

How do you get those first users?

Uhh.. email, call or visit? If they're small businesses and I'm assuming your solution solves <em>some</em> problem they're having, I'm sure they'd be willing to give you five minutes to pitch if you show up to the company.

If you're targeting larger companies, then google or linkedin and find out who the right person is and then contact them through the company operator.

Lastly ask your network for leads, not to sell, but to get feedback. Most people won't mind referring you to their friends if they know you're not going to harrass their friends to buy something.
