Why are startups giving out their financials publicly? Are they desperate for attention?

Stumbled across this post today: http://inside.idonethis.com/startup-expenses/

It’s one month of financials from a company called, IDoneThis. Found this and the link they shared to the Everpix financials https://github.com/everpix/Everpix-Intelligence/blob/master/Financials.md to be fascinating but also perplexing.

I recall Buffer releasing salary data not long ago as well.

Not sure what the motivation for these companies to share their financials might be? Are they just digging for exposure? Seems desperate if that’s the case.

Gives good insight to future founders, whats the problem with being open and transparent?

I like then sharing it but I don't think I would do that.

PR. You just shared their website. Until now I've never heard of these companies.

Link building. This post is a perfect example.

Whether this is intentional or not depends on the SEO expertise of those sharing their financials.
