I've just recently started using nootropics so I haven't experimented with all of them yet. My quick answer for the people who don't want to read the rest of my post. Do they work? Yes!
Now onto my detailed explanation. I'm currently taking DMAE at 351mg dosages once per day, Vinpocetine 10mg at 2 to 3 times a day.
I usually only take two dosages of the Vinpocetine since if you take a nootropic at dinner time, it will be difficult to fall asleep at night, so I usually take them at breakfast and lunch, since you're supposed to take them with food; they absorb better that way.
Huperzine A 200mcg twice per day is also another nootropic I've started taking. I've also ordered L-Tyrosine 500mg capsules and Phenylpiracetam, and they should be arriving in the mail within the next day or two, so I'll update you on how those work.
I'm actually very excited about taking Phenylpiracetam since it's supposed to be the most powerful nootropic and can give an effect similar to what Bradley Cooper's character experiences in the movie Limitless although not to such a great extreme of course.
You might want to leave an email or something in case you forget to come back to this posting so that we can discuss my experiences with these nootropics further.
Now onto my experiences. The first nootropic I started taking was DMAE. I immediately noticed increased focus while taking it, as well as very vivid dreams/nightmares.
Every night seems to take forever as I have like 20+ vivid dreams a night. I actually enjoy this aspect, although some people hate it because they're scared of having nightmares.
Several of my dreams reminded me of things that I had to do but had forgotten which is in my opinion one of the most useful aspects about dreams; since they bring up you subconscious thoughts and memories.
There's also the weird experiences of dreaming about someone you haven't seen in years then seeing them the very next day, as if your dreams could predict what would happen.
I took up to 4 times the recommended dosage of DMAE without any negative side effects, however you should take the recommended amount because a tolerance can build up if you take too much, especially if you're not supplementing with choline or eating eggs or liver enough.
I don't supplement with choline although I might start doing so in the future; right now I either eat liver or I"ll eat egg yolk, which is also high in choline. Eat the egg raw though as you'll get more of the choline that way. I usually get rid of the egg white since uncooked it reduces the amount of biotin in your body.
After that, while maintaining DMAE in my daily regiment, I began taking Vinpocetine and Huperzine A as well. I introduced both of them at the same time so I can't speak to their individual efficacy. One is supposed to help with memory, and the other with focus.
However, I've noticed significant improvements now that I'm taking them. I can not sleep an entire night and still be 100% mentally focused, although I feel the lack of sleep in my body. I wouldn't recommend avoiding sleep of course as the long term effects of doing so can severely harm your body or kill you.
I've also noticed a improvement in my ability to learn and recall information. Whereas normally I might read the same page of information multiple times because my thoughts distracted me, I can get through a page of information quickly and move onto the next without getting distracted.
Like I said, I haven't tried Phenylpiracetam or L-Tyrosine yet but I'll update you in the next few days about my experiences with them.
I'll likely cycle Phenylpiracetam and my other nootropics on different days since Phenylpiracetam is supposed to be so powerful and also if you use it every day a tolerance can build up, so it won't work as well, but like I said if you're taking choline, this is less likely to happen.
If you have any further questions I"d be happy to answer.
