How do you survive the stress of an Acquisition process?

We are a very early stage company that got surprised in an investment meeting by an “aquihire” offer. Actually, less of an offer and more like testing the waters if we would be interested.

We said we are interested, because this company was actually our target for an acquisition when we founded a few months ago.

I don’t have any details yet and the process feels like it is taking forever. It is so stressful.

Anyone gone through the process that can give advice?

You founded a few months ago and want to end it already ?? Are you sure you've achieved what you set out to do ?

I'd find a negotiator you can trust: you'll need someone who stands between you and the buyer, and who can afford to lose face, get angry (or not), push their limits. And when all that has happened and the dust is settling, the decision taker - you - will be able to make your choice freely.

We went through the same some time ago: pre-money acquihire offer. We found ourselves a brilliant negociator who pushed the limits and who got us in a position where we, the founders, could comfortably decide against the deal. Still happier than ever that we didn't go through with it.

Good luck!

Oh, and don't stress ;)
