Questions

When they put out industry wage averages, are they talking about salary only or salary+bonus+options (+benefits?)

For example, I make 80K with a 25K bonus and 50K yearly vested options (and full benefits).  What is my “compensation”?

How is this a brag post when average silicon valley wages are like 120k? All you hear about is engineers making 150k coming out of school. The question is are they saying total compensation or salary??

News flash! The Silicon Valley bubble does not in anyway reflect the rest of American society, with the exception of maybe Wall Street firms who hire Ivy League programmers.

$150,000 starting salary is not the norm for computer science majors; not even in most of Silicon Valley either. Last I check the starting salary was something like $85,000 on average for Silicon Valley engineers.

Maybe the ones that graduate from Stanford, MIT, etc. make $100,000+ starting but that's a small subset.
