Are those practice pitch events worth it?

I see a number of events posted on Eventbrite touting opportunities to pitch in front of angels/VC’s, have any of you found these opportunities helpful in improving your pitch? Have any of you made meaningful connections through those events? I’ve read over and over again not to pay to pitch but the events that I’m considering are nominal rates, $20. I assume it’s just to cover costs so I’m not conflicted with that.

I don't think $20 counts as 'paying for a pitch event.'. It never hurts to have someone else come up with objections and insights to tweak. Personally, I've never been to one, but I argue with myself in the shower every morning.

As someone who founded and runs an organization that puts on these pitch events. They are valuable. We don't charge for people to pitch and we manage to attract a decent audience of investors, mentors, and talent to help give feedback and help the entrepreneur make connections in the community.
