Building meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships without the drama?

Am a founder in a high growth industry running a <2 year old startup. Ever since I got started, one of my main goals for the company was to build symbiotic relationships with other market participants. Unfortunately however, a large part of these attempts end in burned bridges, bad blood and is a great strain on my financial and emotional resources. What can I do to be more successful at not only building better relationships but weeding out the drama queens and outright sociopaths?

The problem with other market participants many times is that they are so greedy and over extended themselves, they are fearful of the impact an outside entity can have on their progress.

You have to figure out how to do it on your own first and make it happen. I know this is unfortunate, I know what this is like... But I've come to a point that I can no longer worry about the big picture, I have to focus on self and buy them out later.
