We couldn’t get our startup off the ground after deciding to reject $40000 funding. We were facing hardship to raise the initial seed money. I’m confused and mentally struggling to make a decision whether to leave the startup now.

It's hard to give you kind words when I don't know the specifics of your product, but it seems you should be able to get $40k from customers.

If the passion is still there - keep going! If it's gone, there's no shame in quitting.

Most founders think their idea is worth far more than it actually is. The vast majority of founders end up being wannabes who do not have the capacity to actually build a viable business.

Don't confuse ego with ability.

Keep keeping on, apply to a few accelerators. Many of them take only about 7% for 20-50k and a few take 0% and still give a little cash. Some accelerators lists searchable by location, funding, deadlines, etc:
