I am a tech journalist and I have never once written an article based on a press release. I only write about my friends or people/companies that give me great swag.

How's it going MG Siegler. You write a new article about Apple because they sent you a new iPhone or other Apple device? : )
Good guess but no- and Apple, please send me an iPhone
Well sheeit, hit me up with your address, mate! We're about to print toilet roll with our competitors' faces n logos on it. Yeah, we roll deep.
Wherein "swag" means hookers?
Before jumping into the startup life I was a journalist as well and worked for a major media outlet for several years. In my experience only lousy journalists write based on press releases. Maybe you can use one as a filler on a very slow day, but other than that, they are usually unattractive, badly written, non-news material.

You mean you have a blog.
lol
OP I actually write for a large international newspaper - my byline is even in print (for whatever's that is worth these days)
OP here - press releases are horrible and like an avalanche of boredom plus my salary is so abysmal that if I didn't get any perks I think I would quit.
There is a saying in Spanish 'journalism is the most fun way to be poor'. After getting paid like crap for years, and not even being able to afford decent clothes, I think all the fun just vanished. So I get what you are saying!!

But here you are, rejecting my toilet roll swag offer above. :P
Make it a lifetime supply and we have a deal. ;)
Well, in that case you should totally write about my company :)
