I got laid off from a start-up after working my ass off for 4 years. Thought it was my company, worked weekends, days, nights. Did everything possible to make it a success. But the CEO screwed up sales and then they just threw me under the bus!

Who cares if you have vested shares, did you purchase the option after you were laid off?
I don't think it matters if he has stock, as it seems like the company he was fired from is going downhill anyways. Their stock is probably worthless. He should consider it a positive thing to be moving on from that mess.
Well I think it's unclear if it's going downhill, if it was going downhill why do you give a shit if you were thrown under the bus and had to move on? Sounds like they saved you from wasting more time if that were the case, if not and you think the company has a chance at exiting - I hope you had stock options.
I've been there. If things are going downhill it's probably for the better that you are out, cause after having downsized things will only get tougher. If anything consider the experience you've made as your reward. They can't take that away.
Lesson learned: Don't work nights and weekends. Companies that are going to succeed will do it on 8-5.
I believe in working smart instead of working hard. But this is a very difficult thing to master. Your comment here is absolutely not targeted or relevant to the majority of followers of this blog.
Sounds like a certain ticketing company in London Bridge. The CEO used phrases like "throw them under the bus" , "fake It until you make it" & "smash and grab" on a daily basis.
To the OP,…You will come back better. Good luck with your next position. ;-)
It would be nice if we could know who this person is, so people can stay well away...
There are a few VC blacklists out there, prolly a few non-founder "Suits" who screw things up lists too.... Batorrater.co tried to do similar, but of course zero interest from incu-bators as many would be exposed along with Devils masquerading as Angels.
Sorry to hear that... Must he tough. But, I was laid off for the first time by a boss who was a complete loser and treated his staff terribly. What annoyed me the most was that he was successful.
It was the biggest motivation I could have to start my own business and be a much better boss and more successful. You can't buy that motivation, you have to live it to feel it ...
